Triple-spotted Clay Xestia ditrapezium

Wingspan 35-42 mm.

Having a widespread, but local distribution over much of Britain, this species occurs in woodland and parks.

It flies mainly in July and is attracted to light and sugar.

The overwintering larvae hibernate when small and recommence feeding in spring on various foodplants including sallow (Salix), birch (Betula) and bramble (Rubus).
