Wingspan c.8–11 mm.

A rare species in Britain, with a scattered distribution mainly in southern England, flying in areas where dyer's greenweed (Genista tinctoria) grows. Abroad it is known from Denmark and parts of central Europe, eastwards to the Volga and Ural regions of Russia.

The early stages have never been found and the life history is not yet described, but the moth is believed to be closely tied to dyer's greenweed, which is considered its sole foodplant in Britain. on the continent it is associated also with other Genista species.

Adults are found on the wing in the autumn, most often in August and September.
