Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Slender Burnished Brass Thysanoplusia orichalcea

(Fabricius, 1775)

Wingspan 36-44 mm.

A rare immigrant species, which has occurred less than 100 times in Britain, most often around the southern coastal districts.

The most likely period for its arrival is between August and October, and it is most frequently encountered at light.

Abroad, the species is distributed in the Mediterranean and African regions, where the larvae feed on a number of herbaceous plants. It is sometimes imported accidentally as a larva with cut flowers.
