Hedge Rustic Tholera cespitis

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 34-40 mm.

Locally common throughout most of Britain, despite its English name, this is a species of open grassland.

It flies in August and September, and can be attracted to light.

The caterpillars feed on various grasses, including mat-grass (Nodus stricta) and hair-grass (Deschampsia spp.).
