Stigmella aeneofasciella
(Herrich-Schäffer, 1855)
Wingspan c.6 mm.
A tiny but well-marked Nepticulid, with metallic bronze and gold fasciae and purplish sheen.
It has a somewhat disjunct distribution, being found in the southern counties of England, and also further north, from Lancashire to County Durham.
The larvae feed in a gallery leading to a blotch on the leaves of agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) and on various cinquefoil (Potentilla) species.
There are two generations, the first with adults in May leading to July larvae, and the second has adults in August and larvae from September through to November.
