Scythris grandipennis
(Haworth, 1828)
Wingspan c. 12-20mm
This fairly local species occurs mainly in the southern half of England, with some instances in southern Ireland and South Wales.
It frequents dry soils where the foodplant, gorse (Ulex) is plentiful, and is mainly a day-flying species, being on the wing in June.
The larvae are gregarious and make a silken web on the foodplant, feeding on the shoots.
