Chalk Carpet Scotopteryx bipunctaria

Wingspan 32-38 mm.

Fairly common and widespread on chalk downland and limestone hills in the south of England and south Wales, becoming scarcer further north in England.

It flies in July and August, mainly at night when it can be attracted to light.

Bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus) and clover (Trifolium) are the larval foodplants.
