Wingspan c. 15mm.

This attractive species is now very rare and until recently was thought to only survive in Somerset and Devon, although in the 19th and early 20th centuries it was present in a number of southern and midland counties.

However, the photos depicted are of an adult found in 2005 in Worcestershire, one of its previous haunts, so it is encouraging news that there may still be a breeding population there.

The larvae feed under bark and on decayed wood, generally during the late winter months.

The adults fly in early morning sunshine in May and June.
