Pine Shoot Moth Rhyacionia buoliana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Pine Shoot Moth Rhyacionia buoliana

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 16-24 mm.

Widely distributed in England and Wales, this species can be a pest in pine plantations, due to the larval habit of burrowing into the needles and feeding inside developing buds.

The adults fly between June and August, when they can be attracted to light, though they are sluggish if disturbed in the daytime.
