This rather distinctive species occurs mainly on rocky coastlines, from the West Country northwards to north-east England and Scotland.

The larval foodplant is scurvygrass (Cochlearia officinalis), the larvae feeding amongst spun leaves and flowers.

Like several related species, the distinctive pupal cocoon is formed from a network of silk.

Adult moths fly from July onwards, and overwinter in this stage, occurring on the wing until April.
