Pyroderces argyrogrammos

(Zeller, 1847)

Wingspan c. 11-17mm

An example of this very attractive European species was attracted to the Mercury Vapour trap of Peter Costen in Guernsey, in May 2002 and to date remains the only British record.

In its native haunts the species occupies dry habitats and the larvae feed in the flowerheads of a number of plants such as thistle (Carlina) and knapweed (Centaurea).

There are typically two generations.
