Platytes alpinella

Wingspan c.20 mm.
A very distinctive Crambid moth which is quite local and distributed mainly around the coasts of England, occupying sandy and shingle habitats. It also occurs occasionally as a presumed migrant.
Lifecycle information for the early stages is not well known, but it is thought that the larvae feed on mosses of the genus Tortula.
The adults fly in July and August and can be attracted to light.
