Piniphila bifasciana

(Haworth, 1811)

Wingspan 12-16 mm.

Scattered locally throughout much of Britain, the adults of this species can be beaten from its foodplant, Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) during the day.

The normal flight time for the adults is from dusk onwards, when it is attracted to light. They are on the wing in June and July.

The larvae feed in a silken gallery among the young shoots and male flowers. Maritime pine (P. pinaster) is also a foodplant.
