Phyllonorycter ulicicolella

(Stainton, 1851)


Wingspan 6-7 mm.

This Nationally scarce (Nb) species is found in heathland and grassland in southern England and also northwest England.

Adult moths are on the wing from June to August.

The larva mines shoots and spines of gorse (Ulex). The Mines are difficult to find but can be fairly distinctive when seen.

The mines in the photos shown were all within a metre of the ground on bushes that were at least 2m high.
