Phyllonorycter sagitella
(Bjerkander, 1790)
Wingspan c. 9mm.
A rare species, occurring only in parts of mid and Western England and Wales, it is a relatively obscurely-marked Phyllonorycter, somewhat similar to P.comparella, but with more fuscous markings, and bears a resemblance to some of the Bucculatrix group.
The larvae feed on aspen (Populus tremula), producing a blotch mine on the underside of the leaf which causes the leaf to pucker strongly.
There are two generations, with mining larvae in June and again from August to October, and adults on the wing in May, then again in July and August.
