Phyllonorycter anderidae

(Fletcher, 1885)

Wingspan 5.5-6.5 mm.

A scarce and local species occurring on heaths and moors, with a scattered distribution mainly in the north-west of England and Wales, and south-east England.

The larva feeds on birch (Betula), and seedling trees are preferred, causing the populations to move around in order to find suitable breeding localities.

The adult moths fly in May and again in August, but are seldom encountered except by rearing from leafmines.
