Phtheochroa rugosana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Phtheochroa rugosana

(Hübner, [1799])

Wingspan 16-20 mm.

This woodland species is distributed mainly in southern England, becoming scarcer further north into the Midlands.

It is on the wing during May and June, and flies around dusk. During the day it relies on camouflage, taking on the appearance of a bird-dropping.

The larvae feed on white bryony (Bryonia dioica).
