Least Minor Photedes captiuncula

(Treitschke, 1825)


Wingspan 15-18 mm.

A local species which occurs in patches across northern England from Cumbria to Northumberland as subspecies expolita, and in Western Ireland as tincta.

It is mostly diurnal, flying in sunshine, and is on the wing between June and August, inhabiting limestone areas.

The larvae feed internally in the stems of glaucous sedge (Carex flecca).
