Phaulernis dentella
(Zeller, 1839)
Wingspan c. 10mm.
Found locally in the south and south-eastern counties, this single-brooded species flies in the daytime during June when it may be seen occasionally on the flowers of the foodplants.
The adults are fuscous, some with variable whitish markings, and a noticeable tuft of scales on the dorsum.
Umbellifers, such as ground elder (Aegopodium) and chervil (Chaerophyllum) are the larval foodplants. The larvae feed in July and August on the seeds, spun with silk.
