Heath Rivulet Perizoma minorata

(Stephens, 1831)

Wingspan c.20 mm.

A small but fairly distinctive species, the Heath Rivulet is a scarce and local species found only in parts of Scotland with a few scattered records from northern England and Ireland.

It inhabits moorland and other upland habitats, and flies during the day in July and August, preferring sunny afternoons.

The larvae live within the seed capsules of eyebright (Euphrasia), during August and September, feeding on the developing seeds.
