Great Prominent Peridea anceps

(Goeze, 1781)

Wingspan 50-65 mm.

A relatively nondescript species, distributed mainly in the south of Britain, as well as parts of the Lake District.

It inhabits old oak woodland, where it flies in a single generation from April to June, when it is easily attracted to light.

The larva lacks the humps of many other 'prominents', and feeds during the late summer on oak (Quercus).
