([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)
Wingspan c. 25mm.
A local and scarce species in the British Isles, occurring only in the southern counties, occupying chalky downland, especially coastal; it is also found in the Burren region of Co. Clare, Ireland, and has occurred on the Isle of Wight.
The adult moths are distinctively marked and fly in July and August after dark, when they can be attracted to light.
The larva is said to feed amongst the roots of wild thyme (Thymus polytrichus), in a web or tube.
