Pelochrista caecimaculana

(Hübner, [1799])

Wingspan c. 13-20mm.

A somewhat local and unassuming species, occurring sparingly in parts of southern England and South Wales, the adults resemble some Eucosma species in appearance.

It frequents dry pastures, wasteland and downland, especially on calcareous soil, and flies in July.

The larvae feed in the roots of common knapweed (Centaurea nigra) and saw-wort (Serratula), from September onwards, overwintering in this state.
