Feathered Ear Pachetra sagittigera

Wingspan 38-50 mm.

Once resident in the chalk downland areas of southern England, this species is now thought to be extinct in this country, as there have been no records of the moth since the early 1960s.

The continental examples depicted are of the nominate form, which is generally darker than the British subspecies brittanica.

The larvae feed on grasses, especially meadow-grass (Poa spp.).
