Bulrush Wainscot Nonagria typhae

(Thunberg, 1784)


Wingspan 45-50 mm.

Relatively common in suitable habitat throughout much of the British Isles, this is a large distinctive species, with a wingspan of up to 54mm.

Flying from July to September, it occupies a range of damp or marshy habitats, but is sometimes found wandering away from these areas.

The larvae feed on the stems of reedmace (Typha latifolia) and lesser reedmace (T. angustifolia).
