Lesser Yellow Underwing Noctua comes
Hübner, [1813]
Wingspan 37-45 mm.
Inhabiting a range of habitats, this moth is found plentifully throughout Britain.
Like its larger cousin, the Large Yellow Underwing (N. pronuba), it shows a wide range of variation in colour and pattern of the forewings, including a dark northern form, regular in parts of Scotland.
The adults are on the wing between July and September, when they are often attracted to light.
