Niditinea striolella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Niditinea striolella

(Matsumura, 1931)

[Synonyms: piercella]
Wingspan c.12mm.

This is a relatively scarce species, distributed mainly in the southern and south-eastern counties of England, extending westwards into parts of South Wales and northwards to Yorkshire.

Not much is written about the larval stages, but adults have been reared from birds' nests, especially those in nest boxes or holes made by woodpeckers etc.

Adult moths have a buff ground colour, heavily irrorated with darker scales, and are on the wing from June to August.
