Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Mathew's Wainscot Mythimna favicolor

(Barrett, 1896)

Wingspan c. 35-40mm.

Considered by some authorities to be a saltmarsh race of Common Wainscot (M. pallens), it does presently however have specific status in most literature.

A scarce species, occurring in saltmarsh habitats in the south-eastern coastal counties of England, where it flies in June and July.

The larva feeds on common saltmarsh-grass (Puccinellia maritima) and maybe also other grasses.
