White-point Mythimna albipuncta

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 30-35 mm.

An immigrant to the British Isles, occurring mainly in the south and south-east of England northwards to Norfok. Numbers vary from just a handful per year to hundreds in the best years, though larger numbers are unusual.

The species occurs mainly in August and September, although there are records from June to October. In favourable years breeding may take place, and the species has occasionally become temporarily established in the south-east.

It is quite common in Europe, where the larvae feed on various grasses.
