Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Thistle Ermine Myelois circumvoluta

(Fourcroy, 1785)

Wingspan 27-33 mm.

This is a very distinctive moth, rather reminiscent of a larger version of the Yponomeutidae family.

As the name suggests, the larval foodplants are various types of Thistle, and the moth is distributed over the southern half of Britain in habitats where the foodplants grow.

Flying in June and July, the adults can be attracted to light.
