Monopis monachella

Wingspan 12-20 mm.
Members of this genus generally are scavengers, feeding on such things as animal refuse, dried plant matter, birds' nests etc.
This species is no exception, and although the larva remains undescribed, it is believed to feed on owl pellets and dead animals amongst others.
Apart from a small resident population on the Suffolk coastline, and possibly also in Norfolk, it is a rare visitor to these shores with only a handful of records in recent years.
The adults fly between May and September.
