Monochroa niphognatha

Wingspan c. 14mm.

After its discovery in Britain in Kent in 1984, the species has been found in the same single locality on a regular basis since. In 2002 a specimen turned up in Devon, and the photo is of one taken in an MV light trap at Portsmouth in Hampshire.

Very little is known of the early stages, but abroad the larva is known to have fed inside the stems of amphibious bistort (Persicaria amphibia).

The adult moth flies in June and July.
