Micropterix mansuetella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Micropterix mansuetella

(Zeller, 1844)

Wingspan c. 10mm.

Although distributed through much of England into parts of Scotland, this is a rather local species and rather difficult to encounter unlike some of the other Micropterix species.

It is similar to M. tunbergella, but less distinctly marked and easily distinguished by its black head.

It occurs in damp habitats, often in the company of other Micropterix species, feeding on the pollen of a range of flowers.

The early stages are not well described, in common with several of its congeners.
