Western Thyme Plume Merrifieldia tridactyla

(Linnaeus, 1758)


Wingspan c. 20mm.

This rather rare and local species is found mainly in the south-western counties and the Burren region of southern Ireland.

Flying mainly in June and July, it inhabits chalky or limestone districts.

The larvae feed on a number of species of wild thyme (Thymus spp.).
