Apple Leaf Miner Lyonetia clerkella

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 7-9 mm.

This tiny (~8mm wingspan) species is common throughout Britain, and attacks a variety of fruit trees, including apple (Malus), the larvae forming narrow, winding 'leaf mines'.

The species has two or more broods, with the later ones overwintering and reappearing in the spring.

The adults fly at night and are attracted to light.
