Double Kidney Ipimorpha retusa - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Double Kidney Ipimorpha retusa

(Linnaeus, 1761)

Wingspan 26-32 mm.

Locally distributed in the south and west of England and Wales, this species resembles the more widespread Olive (I. subtusa), which however has divergent cross-lines, which are roughly parallel in the present species.

It is on the wing from July to September, and can be attracted to both light and sugar.

The species frequents damp marshy places, and feeds on sallow (Salix), the larvae spinning together the shoots.
