Isle of Wight Wave Idaea humiliata
(Hufnagel, 1767)
Wingspan 19-22 mm.
This species was formerly resident on the Isle of Wight but became extinct around 1931. One further moth was recorded from Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1954. There is no evidence of any further UK records.
The foodplant is unknown, although in captivity the larvae will feed on knotgrass, dandelion and dock. The species overwinters as a small larva.
The adult flies in a single generation in July, inhabiting grassy slopes by the sea.
