White Spot Hadena albimacula
(Borkhausen, 1792)
Wingspan 30-38 mm.
A very local species, occurring on shingle beaches and chalk or limestone sea-cliffs on the south coast of England.
The adults are on the wing in June and July, and are attracted to light as well as certain flowers.
The larval foodplant is Nottingham catchfly (Silene nutans), the caterpillars feeding on the seeds at night, and descending to hide amongst the shingle during the day.
