Oriental Fruit Moth Grapholita molesta - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Oriental Fruit Moth Grapholita molesta

(Busck, 1916)

[Synonyms: Cydia molesta]
Wingspan c. 12mm.

Not a naturalised British species, this moth is sometimes imported as a larva or pupa on peach (Prunus persica). It originates from the far east, but has become established in some European countries.

The larvae feed in the fruit, buds and twigs of peach and other Prunus species, in some cases becoming a serious pest.

Adult moths are similar in appearance to Plum Fruit Moth Grapholita funebrana.
