Scotch Annulet Gnophos obfuscata

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 41-46 mm.

A species of rocky moorland and mountain hillsides, locally distributed in the northern half of Scotland and parts of western Ireland.

The adults are at large during July and August, and rest on rocks and stones during the day. At night they will come to light.

The larvae are brownish grey and have two slight humps at the rear. They feed on a range of moorland plants such as heather (Calluna) and saxifrage (Saxifraga).
