This species is quite straightforward to identify with its sharp black 'shoulder-patches' and dark spots on a greyish forewing.
It is relatively well-distributed over much of England and North Wales, and extends into Scotland and parts of eastern Ireland.
The larva feeds in a folded leaf or between spun leaves of apple (Malus).
Adult moths fly in July and August and come to light.
