Exaeretia ciniflonella

Wingspan c. 22mm.

A rare and local species in Britain, occurring only in parts of the Scottish Highlands, and only seen infrequently, among birch (Betula).

The adult moths fly in July and August, and overwinter, sometimes appearing again in the early spring. They are difficult to locate at rest in the daytime, but come to light after dark.

The larvae feed on birch (Betula, in a rolled or folded leaf.
