Marsh Pug Eupithecia pygmaeata

(Hübner, [1799])

Wingspan 14-18 mm.

This rather dark brown, quite small Pug is uncommonly distributed in scattered localities over central and northern England, Scotland and parts of Ireland.

It flies in May and June, occupying both damp habitats such as marshes and fens, and drier locations like sand dunes and waste ground.

The larvae feed on field mouse-ear (Cerastium arvense), consuming the flowers and developing seeds.
