Lead-coloured Pug Eupithecia plumbeolata

(Haworth, 1809)

Wingspan 14-15 mm.

A relatively pale and inconspicuously-marked member of the Eupithecia genus, without any distinct darker or paler spots.

It is distributed locally throughout much of the British Isles, ranging to southern Scotland. The adults fly in May and June, and are attracted to light.

The short, stubby caterpillar is yellowish with red or purple lines, and feeds in the flowers of common cow-wheat (Melampyrum pratense).
