Eudemis profundana

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 14-20 mm.

A rather variable species which generally shows a rich mixture of reddish ground-colour overlaid with darker and paler marbling. The whitish dorsal blotch can be large and conspicuous.

Distributed throughout England and Wales, and in Ireland, though generally uncommon.

The adults are on the wing in July and August, and come to light.

The foodplant is oak (Quercus), the larva feeding in a rolled leaf.
