Cumberland Gem Eucarta amethystina

(Hübner, [1803])

Wingspan c. 34mm.

Although on the British list, there is no confirmed record of this species ever having reached these shores. It was listed by Meyrick (1928) as having occurred once in Cumberland but without any substantial supporting details.

Abroad, it occurs from the Mediterranean region to Asia, where the larval foodplants are hog's fennel (Peucedanum officinale), pepper-saxifrage (Silaum silaus) and wild carrot (Daucus carota).
