Ethmia quadrillella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Ethmia quadrillella

(Goeze, 1783)

[Synonyms: inversella, funerella]
Wingspan 15-19 mm.

The smallest of our Ethmia species, this is a local moth, occurring in England mainly in the east and south-east.

Flying between May and July, the adults are mostly nocturnal, and are attracted to light, but are sometimes seen flying in sunshine.

The caterpillars live in a silken web and feed on the foliage of comfrey (Symphytum spp.) and lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis).
