Etainia decentella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Etainia decentella

(Herrich-Schäffer, 1855)

Wingspan 5-8mm.

This well-marked nepticulid is one of the few of this group easily recognisable by forewing markings alone.

The larvae form slender mines within sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) seeds. The adults emerge in two generations, in June and August. They may often be found resting on sycamore trunks, and are also attracted to light.

The moth is locally distributed throughout much of England
