Common Carpet Epirrhoe alternata

(Müller, 1764)

Wingspan 20-25 mm.

Quite common and fairly well distributed over most of Britain, this species has two generations in the south, flying in May and June, and later in August and September. In northern Britain there is only one brood, in mid-July to mid-August.

It occurs in a wide range of habitats and is often flushed in the daytime.

The larvae feed on bedstraw (Galium).
