Epinotia fraternana

(Haworth, 1811)

Wingspan c.12mm.

A local and uncommon species, frequenting coniferous regions, with a scattered distribution from the southern counties of England to parts of northern Scotland. It has also been recorded from Wales and Ireland.

The larvae feed on fir (Abies spp.), mining the leaves at first, and later spinning leaves together, overwintering before pupating in spring.

Adult moths emerge in June and July, and fly in the afternoon high up among the branches.
